Leipzig police investigating irritant gas incident at school

Students and staff evacuated after irritant gas released at Apollonia of Wiedebach School

Leipzig police are investigating an incident involving the release of irritant gas at the Apollonia of Wiedebach School in the city's Gohlis district on Tuesday morning, which led to the evacuation of students and staff.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 10:30 am when an unknown substance was released in a hallway of the school, causing irritation to the eyes and throats of those present.

Fire department called to the scene

The fire department was called to the scene and used a special ventilation system to clear the building of the gas, allowing students and staff to return to the school.

A total of 13 people, including 11 students and two teachers, were examined by paramedics at the scene, but none required hospital treatment.

Leipzig police have launched an investigation into the incident and are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information they may have.

The Apollonia of Wiedebach School is a primary and secondary school located in the Gohlis district of Leipzig, with approximately 600 students and 70 staff members.

The school has implemented a safety protocol in the wake of the incident, including increased security measures and the distribution of information to parents and guardians.
