Fuellkrugs Stoppage Time Strike Earns 1 1 Draw Against Switzerland

Germany's late show secures group victory

Füllkrug's stoppage-time strike earns 1-1 draw against Switzerland

The DFB team struggled against a stubborn Swiss side but ultimately secured top spot in Group A thanks to a dramatic late goal.

It was a frustrating night for Germany as they toiled against a well-organized Swiss side, but the introduction of Niclas Füllkrug ultimately proved to be the difference. The Werder Bremen striker netted a dramatic equalizer in the dying embers of the match to secure a 1-1 draw and send Germany through to the knockout stages as group winners.

The Swiss started the brighter of the two sides and took the lead through Haris Seferovic in the 26th minute. The Borussia Dortmund striker was on hand to tap home from close range after some good work from Xherdan Shaqiri on the right wing.

Germany struggled to create clear-cut chances in the first half, but they improved after the break and began to assert their dominance on the game. They were rewarded for their efforts in the 55th minute when Kai Havertz headed home from a pinpoint cross from Joshua Kimmich.

The Swiss refused to give up and they came close to regaining the lead on several occasions. However, Germany held on and Füllkrug's late strike ensured that they finished top of the group.

Germany will now face the runners-up from Group B in the last 16, while Switzerland will take on the winners of Group C.
